Nigella Lawson Won’t Face Drugs Prosecution

Nigella Lawson won’t face police prosecution over her use of cocaine, despite the fact that she confessed in court to taking the substance.

The 54-year-old television chef admitted to taking the Class A drug twice during the trial of her assistant. However, she denied claims from Francesca and Elisabetta Grillo that she took cocaine regularly.

A Scotland Yard spokesman confirmed that police made this decision because they didn’t want any potential witnesses to be deterred from giving evidence at future trials.

Police officials added that a team investigated all of Lawson’s evidence related to her drug confession. However, they have decided not to progress because they believe that witnesses won’t want to tell the truth in trials if Lawson is prosecuted for her admission.

The Grillo sisters claimed that Lawson actually snorted cocaine and smoked cannabis in front of her daughter. They alleged that she also drank bottles of anti-depressants, repeatedly walked around with white powder on her nose, had rolled up banknotes littered across her house, and hid cocaine in books.

During her trial at Isleworth Crown Court in London, Lawson confirmed that she took the drug alongside her late husband, John Diamond. They started to experiment with cocaine after they discovered that he had terminal cancer.

Lawson went on to admit taking it in July 2010 too. This came after Charles Saatchi, her former husband, “subjected [Lawson] to intimate terrorism.”

However, Saatchi testified at the trial, “I have never, never seen any evidence of Nigella taking any drugs whatsoever. I want to be helpful, but I genuinely have no real knowledge at all.”

When the art collector was probed even further he remarked, “Are you asking me whether I think Nigella truly was off her head? Not for a second. Over this whole period she was writing books very successfully and appearing on television shows very successfully.”

An email from Saatchi to Lawson was also read out in court, where he accused her of being an habitual drug user.

It declared, “You Higella, on the other hand poisoned your children with drugs and trashed their lives. But I’m sure it was all great fun and now everything is perfect – bravo, you have become a celebrity hostess on a global TV game show. And you have got the pass you desired, free to heartily enjoy all the drugs you want forever. Classy!”

This contradicts Saatchi’s comments to the Daily Mail last month, where he stated, “The truth is that she was taking illegal drugs secretly throughout the last few years of our marriage, often with her own child when she was far too young to even smoke or drink.”
