‘Doctor Who’ Camp Unveils Peter Capaldi’s First Official Pic In 12th Doctor Get-Up

It’s official! This is what the 12th Doctor will look like for the upcoming season of Doctor Who.

Peter Capaldi, who’s taken over the mantle of the Doctor from fan fave Matt Smith, sounds pretty sweet on his threads, gussied up by Doctor Who costume designer Howard Burden.

“He’s woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 percent Rebel Time Lord,” Capaldi says of his new wardrobe, via Empire.

The outfit of the 12th Doctor, released via Facebook, Twitter and all across time and space, consists of a dark blue Crombie coat—with red lining—and matching vest and trousers, complemented by a white dress shirt and finished with sleek, black Doctor Martens boots (amazingly, Capaldi will be the first to don what should have been an obviously and natural choice of footwear).

“New Doctor, new era, and of course new clothes. Monsters of the universe, the vacation is over – Capaldi is suited and booted and coming to get you,” said Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat.

Moffat has been at the helm of the beloved British sci-fi series since 2010 and has been working on Doctor Who since the show’s revival back in 2005. As such, Capaldi will be the fourth incarnation of the mysterious time-and-space hopping alien known to most simply as “the Doctor,” and, at age 55, the eldest gentleman to pilot the TARDIS during his tenure (John Hurt doesn’t count). Moffat says this means zilch whilst taking on a being more than 10 centuries young.

“What does that mean to the Doctor? His apparent ages range from 70s to 20s, in no particular order,” he said via SFX. “It’s clearly no reflection of how he feels, because he’s well over 1000 now. So no, he’s just the Doctor.”

“Peter’s quite vital. For a man in his mid-50s, he’s very wiry. I think the pace and the energy will come differently. You wouldn’t want it to come the same way, would you? As far as the Doctor knows, he’s just slightly older than he was the last time.”

What do you think of the Doctor’s new look? What excites you the most about the upcoming season of Doctor Who? Which actor has been your favorite Time Lord to pilot the TARDIS over the years?
