Feds Collar Hunter Moore, Revenge Porn Dirtbag, For Hacking/Stealing Nude Pics

Nine victims of “revenge porn” site Is Anyone Up are closer to justice today as the FBI has taken the site’s former operator, Hunter Moore, into custody.

As part of an indictment dating back to October, 2013, Moore and co-defendant Charles Evens were arrested on charges of conspiracy, unauthorized access to a protected computer to obtain information and aggravated identity theft linked to the site, where nude or sexually explicit photos of people were hosted without their knowledge or permission. The 15-count indictment alleges that Moore paid Evens to break into the email accounts of the victims in order to obtain private, nude photos to post online.

“We’re ecstatic,” Charlotte Laws told TIME. “We’re super pleased that the FBI have brought this to fruition.

The TIME report calls Laws a “revenge porn activist and says she’s sought Hunter Moore’s arrest for years; her daughter, Kayla, is one of the nine victims listed in the indictment.

Is Anyone Up has been shutdown since April, 2012, when anti-bullying group Bullyville bought the domain from Moore, who claimed to have seen the error of his ways.

The FBI’s Los Angeles division announced the arrests of Moore and Evens Thursday morning. The media release says Hunter Moore allegedly sent multiple payments to Evens to break into email accounts belonging to “hundreds of victims.”

If convicted, Moore and Evens face up to five years in federal prison for each of the conspiracy and computer hacking counts. The charge of aggravated identity theft carries a mandatory two-year sentence to run consecutive to any other sentence imposed in the case.

California recently passed laws prohibiting revenge porn, The Verge reports.

The Moore-Evens indictment lists specific overt acts dating back to mid-October, 2011, in which Hunter Moore exchanged emails with Evens on the topics of how to hack emails and an offer to pay him $200 weekly via an anonymous Paypal account.

“We’re super pleased that the FBI have brought this to fruition,” Laws said. “I’ve talked to several of the victims and they are extremely pleased and I know all the victims are going to feel happy and they are going to feel that finally justice is being served.”
