Obama Marriage On The Rocks?? Claims Surface Over The Infamous ‘Selfie’ and An Alleged Affair

Is President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama’s marriage on the rocks?

That’s the burning question that’s been circulating for quite sometime. However, a series of events has brought the growing speculation back to the forefront.

According to the Daily Mail, a number of media outlets, most notably the National Enquirer, have reported growing marital problems between the president and first lady.

The National Enquirer’s latest publication, which is coined with the headline, “Obama Divorce Bombshell,” alleges that the couple’s 21-year marriage has dwindled into nothing more than a “string of ugly fights” that evolved from the Nelson Mandela memorial incident.

For those who aren’t aware, the infamous ‘selfie’ was taken at the Nelson Mandela memorial when President Obama took part in a quick photo with the Danish Prime Minister, Helle Thorning-Schmidt.

Although the ‘selfie’ immediately became a hit, it was Mrs. Obama’s reaction in the picture that left people with raised eyebrows. However, there have been many different perceptions of her facial expression in the picture.

However, after the memorial, the claims began to spread like wildfire. Needless to say, some of the allegations are quite far-fetched and outlandish. The Enquirer also claims that the First Lady has discovered Secret Service bodyguards have even been concealing President Obama’s infidelity. (Have they been watching too much of ABC’s Scandal?) It has been reported that the White House has declined comment on the allegations.

The Enquirer even goes so far as to share an exclusive account from an unnamed spokesperson who claims to have inside details from behind the White House doors. The validity of the publication’s claims can definitely be deemed questionable as every account is given by only anonymous insiders.

The source claims that the couple now sleeps in separate bedrooms after President Obama’s attempt to “mend fences” went awry over the Christmas holidays when he returned to the states with their two daughters. Mrs. Obama opted to extend her stay in Hawaii.

However, these aren’t the first claims that have circulated. Over the past 12 years, a number of allegations have been made in reference to the Obamas’ marriage. Two written books have also made attempts to dig for information about the Obama marriage. In 2009, Washington reporter Richard Wolffe made a claim that the couple’s marriage almost fell apart nine years prior due to President Obama’s political aspirations.

“There was little conversation and even less romance. She was angry at his selfishness and careerism; he thought she was cold and ungrateful,” wrote Wolffe.

In 2012, another claim was made by political writer Edward Klein, who claims that President Obama had become depressed due to their “ailing marriage”.

“During the dark days that followed his defeat, he turned to Michelle for comfort. But she was in no mood to offer him sympathy,” wrote Klein, who claimed Michelle’s friends told him she had even drawn up divorce papers.

“He had dashed Michelle’s hopes of creating a stable and secure future,” he wrote. “As a result their marriage was on the rocks, and Obama confided to friends that he and Michelle were talking about divorce.”

The Enquirer also stated that after President Obama’s term, the couple has plans to divorce with him moving to Hawaii while she stays in Washington with their children. However, that particular claim is quite contradictory since a number of sources claim the First Lady wasn’t too fond of the idea of relocating to Washington in the first place.

So, are any of the claims true? At the end of the day, only allegations have been cited. There’s no concrete evidence to back the claims presented by the opposing publications. Although no one really knows what happens behind closed doors, time always tells the true story.
