Jennifer Lawrence Wasn’t First Choice For ‘Silver Linings Playbook’

Jennifer Lawrence was not the first choice for her role as a young widow in the award winning drama Silver Linings Playbook and Bradley Cooper wasn’t either.

The shocking news was recently revealed by studio executive Harvey Weinstein during an interview with Howard Stern.

In the acclaimed film, Jennifer Lawrence plays Tiffany, a disturbed twenty-something, who also happens to be a widow. Weinstein says that the lead role was meant for Anne Hathaway.

The controversial producer told the equally controversial radio talk show host:

“Silver Linings Playbook was originally gonna be with Mark Wahlberg with Anne Hathaway (…) and then Anne wasn’t doing it. She’s marvelous, and wonderful, and she was my choice.

“We had Annie and then we had Mark, and then whatever happened happened. (Director) David (O. Russell) and Anne had some creative differences…. They didn’t see eye to eye.”

Weinstein said the studio was still scrambling to find a replacement for Hathaway when Jennifer Lawrence came into the picture.

Something changed “the minute we saw Jennifer Lawrence’s tape,” he said. “I said, ‘How the hell are we gonna replace Annie?’ And then this amazing creature walked in,” Weinstein recalls.

And the rest is history, as they say and nobody should feel too sorry for either actress, Anne Hathaway won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her critically acclaimed performance in Les Mis and Jennifer Lawrence won the award for Best Actress in Silver Linings.

Jennifer Lawrence is one of the hottest actresses right now, not only coming off her Oscar win last year plus a Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award, among other accolades.

This year continues to be a successful one for the 23-year-old following her return as Katniss Everdeen in the mega blockbuster The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

Rolling Stone magazine has called her “the most talented young actress in America.”

In 2013 Jennifer Lawrence also starred in the comedy-drama American Hustle, which has also earned her multiple Best Supporting Actress nominations including the Academy Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and Critics Choice Awards.

Jennifer Lawrence took the Golden Globe this past Sunday for her role in the David O. Russell film, which also won the Golden Globe for Best Picture as did Amy Adams for Best Actress.
