Trace Adkins Enters Rehab After Drunken Brawl
Trace Adkins has reportedly checked into an alcohol rehabilitation facility. Although the country superstar was sober for 12 years, he admitted drinking during a recent cruise. The special interest cruise, on the NCL Pearl, left Miami on January 12. The week-long voyage includes stops in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel.
In addition to Adkins, The Big Noise, Montgomery Gentry, Neal McCoy, and Wynonna, are expected to perform during the Country Cruising voyage. Adkins was scheduled to headline the cruise. However, he left the ship following a drunken brawl.
As reported by TMZ, one of the ship’s passengers is an Adkins impersonator. Witnesses said the man was performing karaoke when he and Adkins got into a verbal confrontation. Although the two men knew each other for years, the argument escalated into a physical fight.
Witnesses said Adkins was visibly drunk during the confrontation. During the scheduled stop in Jamaica, the country crooner left the ship and did not return. Country Weekly reports a spokesperson confirmed Trace Adkins was drinking during the cruise and decided to check into rehab:
“Trace has entered a treatment facility after a setback in his battle with alcoholism. As he faces these issues head-on, we ask that his family’s privacy will be respected.”
Although Adkins is unable to appear, the remainder of the cruise is expected to proceed as planned. Norwegian cruise Lines has not issued a statement about the incident.
Adkins first confronted his alcoholism in 2002. Following successful treatment, the country singer continued his successful career. In addition to singing and playing guitar, Adkins is a talented actor. He has appeared in numerous films and television programs, including Celebrity Apprentice. Most recently, Adkins co-hosted the American Country Awards with NASCAR driver Danica Patrick.
Trace Adkins obviously suffered a setback in his sobriety. However, he showed strength and maturity in his decision to seek immediate treatment.
