Ed Sheeran Tried To Help Courteney Cox Win A People’s Choice Award

Ed Sheeran has a lot of fans, but not enough to help Courteney Cox win a People’s Choice Award.

As strange as it may sound, the singer-songwriter is pretty good pals with former Friends cast members Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox. Sheeran even helped the Cougar Town star find love and romance with rocker Johnny McDaid. Ed seems to leave behind a thick layer of magic wherever he goes these days.

While Ed Sheeran is incredibly popular in a lot of circles, not even the “I See Fire” singer could help Cox win a People’s Choice Award. He and fellow singer Harry Styles tweeted their support of the actress prior to the event, though it apparently didn’t help her take home a trophy.

“It was really nice. Harry Styles tweeted for me and so did Ed Sheeran. He was so sweet to do it, and so was Ed,” Courteney explained during a recent appearance on Conan.

Harry Style and Ed Sheeran might have plenty of followers on the micro-blogging site, but none of this mattered in the long run. Cox ultimately lost out on the award to Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale.

“Now those are two huge pop stars. I just got to say so much for social media because if I can’t win a People’s Choice Awards with those two tweeting for me. That was it guys. I blew my what, I got nothing, nothing! I might have to get [President] Obama to do it next year or something. Tough times,” she joked.

Ed Sheeran and Cox became friends when she helped her get together with Irish musician Johnny McDaid. Although they kept their relationship a secret for quite some time, Sheeran dished on romance after word of the romance started making the rounds online.

“I wasn’t allowed to talk about this, actually, but it’s just gone public. My housemate (Johnny McDaid), who I have lived with for a year, I introduced him to Courteney and they started dating. Now, they’re crazy about each other,” the singer told OMG! UK last year.

Ed Sheeran also spent the Thanksgiving holiday with Cox’s former Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston. People who loved the NBC comedy back in the day are no doubt extremely jealous right about now.

“[Aniston] has this crazy house with a big staircase that goes down to the pool. I drank a bit too much and needed a time out, so I went down and laid on one of the beds outside by the pool and passed out there,” he said.
