Jennifer Nettles ‘Strips Down’ for ‘That Girl’ Debut [Watch]

Jennifer Nettles has been working hard for the past four years on her debut solo album That Girl.

She was involved in writing all or part of 10 out of the 11 featured songs and says:

“I really didn’t put any boundaries on myself on how I wanted to write. I just let that happen and I didn’t know what direction it was going to go. I sat down at my piano, and I called old friends, and I made new friends, and all those things just to see from a writing perspective what would come together and what kind of collection I would make. It got to a point where I decided ‘Alright, it’s time.'”

It’s possible to sample the flavor of the project by listening to the single of the title track, also called That Girl.

Jennifer Nettles hopes her fans will respond positively, and like what they hear:

“I hope that fans hear this album and from an ego perspective for me, from an artist also perspective, I hope that they listen to it and go, ‘Wow! She’s a way better songwriter and a better singer than I would’ve ever thought!’ I feel like the work that I’ve done with Sugarland, I’m super proud of it, and yet there are things that I wanted to prove to myself and to my fans and that I still want to.”

Jennifer Nettles and partner Kristian Bush grew increasingly experimental over their four albums. Now, Nettles has moved in a different direction by stripping her songs down to their basics.

Nature has blessed Jennifer Nettles with a very distinctive voice that features a wide range and a distinct tone. But it’s her connection with a song’s emotional content that makes her stand out most.

Jennifer is due to appear on several television shows throughout the week to promote That Girl. On Tuesday, she’ll be on NBC’s Today Show and CBS’s Late Show With David Letterman.

She is scheduled to appear also on The View, Yahoo Ram Country and The Chew.

Jennifer Nettles has a special talent, but now she needs to see whether her “stripping down” technique has worked.
