Christine McVie Officially Returns To Fleetwood Mac
Christine McVie has officially returned to Fleetwood Mac. Although rumors have been circulating for months, Drummer Mick Fleetwood made the announcement during Uncle Willie K’s Blues Fest in Maui. Fleetwood confirmed the rumors following an acoustic performance of McVie’s “Songbird.”
Fleetwood acknowledged it was “the worst kept secret there is,” but confirmed that “Christine McVie will be rejoining Fleetwood Mac.” Although the singer and keyboardist left the band 16 years ago, fans are excited about her return.
A native of Birmingham, England, McVie originally joined Fleetwood Mac in 1970, following her marriage to bass guitarist John McVie. Although the band had moderate success in the UK, they moved to the United States in 1974.
As reported by Last FM, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham eventually joined the band, lending to their iconic sound. With the release of their self-titled album in 1975, the band gained worldwide popularity.
In addition to singing and playing the keyboard, McVie is a talented songwriter. She composed several Fleetwood Mac hits, including “Don’t Stop,” “Everywhere,” Little Lies,” and “You Make Loving Fun.”
Christine McVie was a member of Fleetwood Mac for 25 years. Although the band was plagued with personal disagreements and a failed marriage, they released numerous albums and singles that made the Top Ten in the US and in the UK. In 1998, the band was inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
FleetwoodMacNews.com reports that McVie retired from the group in 1995. However, she joined Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks, and John McVie on stage in 2013. Christine said the performance “was amazing” and she felt “like [she’d] never left.” Although her appearance sparked rumors about a reunion, the plans were not confirmed until recently.
Late last year, Fleetwod Mac announced a summer 2014 tour, which is expected to include Christine McVie. Although the details have not been released, fans are anticipating the long-awaited reunion.
