Anna Paquin: ‘True Blood’ Actress Ready To Move Behind The Camera

Anna Paquin may be at the peak of her career with her role on the hit television show True Blood, but it seems her future may be behind the camera rather than in front of it.

As she continues work on True Blood, Paquin is increasing her work behind the scenes, producing the short movie Civilianairre Boys Club and developing another movie called The Pink Hotel as a producer, director, and writer.

It doesn’t seem that Anna Paquin would leave acting entirely. In fact, the 31-year-old Oscar-winning actress is starring in the upcoming movie Free Ride along with husband and True Blood co-star Stephen Moyer.

In the movie, Paquin plays Christina, a single mother of two young girls who gets caught up in the drug trade in Florida in the late 1970s. The movie is not only produced by Moyer and Paquin, but it is also the first film released through their joint production company, Casm Films.

Anna Paquin said her character is much more complex than the description lets on.

“Christina is unconventionally just trying to be a good mother,” Paquin told CBS News. “It might not look the same as everybody else’s childhood, but she’s this incredible survivor.”

Anna hasn’t had so much luck in Hollywood lately. Late in 2013, director Bryan Singer said that her small part in X-Men: Days of Future Past was cut from the film.

“Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous. It’s a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go,” Singer said.

While her work as a producer and director is sure to keep Anna Paquin busy, she won’t have her role in True Blood to rely on much longer. HBO announced late in 2013 that the upcoming seventh season would be the final one for the show.
