Britney Spears Takes Home First People’s Choice Award
Last night, a few big stars gathered at the Nokia theater for the People’s Choice Awards. One star who was in attendance for the first time was none other than Britney Spears. Her appearance wasn’t as a performer or a presenter, but as an audience member as she waited to collect her award of the night.
Spears up until last night, had not won a People’s Choice Award, even though she’s been a prominent figure in the Pop world since her iconic “…Baby One More Time” debut in 1998.
Spears, who is currently in the middle of her Las Vegas residency, attended the show with boyfriend David Lucado. This was also the first time Spears and Lucado made a public appearance at an awards show.
It was a huge night for the star, whose appearance was pumped up by the People’s Choice Awards Twitter account a week before the awards went live. For Spears, it was clearly a memorable moment for the entertainer, who collected the award for Favorite Pop Artist.
Spears took a moment to let everything sink in as she collected her award. When the “Work B–ch” singer reached the podium, she seemed rather ecstatic that the fans would give her such an honor. “Wow! This is awesome. I was not expecting this.”
The pop star took the time to address the voting public, who have sole control over who gets the big awards. Spears began, “It’s because of all of you that I’m able to do what I love to do.” Spears went on to thank her “beautiful boys at home” and “all of you.” Although she didn’t name her boyfriend, it was still obvious that he was on her mind.
Since calling off her engagement with Jason Trawick, Spears hasn’t been shy about her relatively new relationship with Lucado, who isn’t in the business.
Back in December, Spears spoke about her boyfriend David for the first time to talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. At the time, she said that she’s in love with David Lucado after dating for eight months, although they did get into a “tiffy” because he forgot to call her back for six hours.
