Robin Roberts Opens Up About Girlfriend After Open Letter

After Robin Roberts penned an open letter to her girlfriend over the holidays, Roberts returned to Good Morning America with a lot of expectations to open her heart to the viewers about her love. Prior to her open letter detailing her reflective thoughts for the New Year, Roberts, has been very vocal with her battle with breast cancer and myelodysplastic syndrome, a rare blood disorder.

Roberts decided to speak about her longtime love Amber Laign, as she addressed the viewers on Monday’s Good Morning America. Speaking about her public Facebook letter, Roberts said:

“I have never been happier or healthier than I am right now and my year-end post was just full of gratitude and just telling everyone all that I’m grateful for, including my girlfriend Amber who really loved me through a difficult year.”

According to various reports the couple has been going steady for ten years. Unlike Roberts, Laign isn’t in the industry and instead is a licensed massage therapist from San Francisco.

On Monday Roberts went on to speak about a recent vacation as the pair attended her niece Judith’s wedding in Baton Rouge. In addition to discussing her relationship with girlfriend Amber Laign, Roberts shared a family photo from the wedding which saw Roberts and Laign happily standing side by side.

In Robin Roberts’ original open letter, the Good Morning America anchor said:

“At this moment I am at peace and filled with joy and gratitude. I am grateful to God, my doctors and nurses for my restored good health. I am grateful for my sister, Sally-Ann, for being my donor and giving me the gift of life. I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together.”

While the public was surprised about Roberts’ coming out, it is believed that Robin hasn’t been ultra private about her girlfriend Amber and that anyone who was in Robin’s life knew about their relationship.
