Reba McEntire is not only Kelly Clarkson’s stepmother-in-law, she is also her mentor and a very good old friend.
In October of this year, Kelly tied the knot with Brandon Blackstock in an intimate ceremony at Blackberry Farm in East Tennessee. Blackstock is McEntire’s stepson, and that makes her kinda like a stepmother-cum- mother-in-law to Kelly.
But way before Clarkson and Blackstock became an item, Kelly was already sort of a part of the McEntire/Blackstock family. It turns out that Reba McEntire and Kelly were good old friends all along, making it really weird for her to have Reba as a mother type figure and family member:
“It’s like your friend is becoming your mother-in-law and your mentor! You know, she’s a big mentor for me, too, not only musically but professionally,” she said.
McEntire even taped an episode of CMT Crossroads with Kelly, and they re-released Kelly’s hit Because of You together. So, the connection is business as well as family and has been that way for quite some time.
Trisha Yearwood was joined by Kelly Clarkson and Reba McEntire for a Christmas rendition of Silent Night, just in time for Kelly’s new Wrapped in Red album.
Reba was one of Kelly’s childhood idols, and though it must be strange for her, it must also be a special kind of honor to actually be related to her old friend, who she now sees as more of a mentor.
To add to the mix, Clarkson and Blackstock announced recently they are expecting their first child together, which means that Reba McEntire is soon to be a grandmother, well a step-grandmother, but does it really matter?
