Mobile Porn Popular As 2013 Mobile Data Usage Doubles... Go Figure

Mobile porn has become the most popular internet pornography viewing platform according to the 2013 mobile data usage statistics that also show tablet and smartphone data usage doubling.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Courtney Stodden doesn’t want to be a porn star, but she doesn’t mind getting nude with zombies.

Mobile data usage in the United States for 2013 has grown from 690 MB all the way up to 1.2 GB on average. On a global scale, this average jumped from 140 MB to 240 MB. It’s estimated about 60 to 70 percent of all mobile data is offloaded to local WiFi connections.

In the past, Verizon’s CEO has claimed unlimited mobile data plans are not sustainable since growth in mobile data usage would eventually outpace their cost to do business. (Of course, it makes sense for them to say this considering their business model is based upon selling bandwidth, unlike competitors like AIO, T-Mobile, etc.) While it could be argued the telecom industry should be able to adapt, the rapid growth of mobile porn may actually play a large factor.

The reason mobile porn becomes an issue is because 30 percent of all internet traffic is pornography, and the biggest porn site gets over four billion page views and 350 million unique visits per month. The world’s largest internet porn site, XVideo, transfers 29 petabytes a month, or 50 gigabytes per second, of streaming smut.

When it comes to porn usage statistics, mobile porn accounts for 62 percent in the United States, with 52 percent on smartphones and 10 percent on tablets. Interestingly enough, the only two countries that come close is the UK and Mexico (such a weird race… should we be proud or ashamed?). Overall, worldwide mobile porn statistics show that desktops still rule as the platform of choice, 51 percent to 49 percent.

So could mobile porn eventually cause an internet traffic jam? While they say, “correlation does not imply causation,” this data about mobile porn and mobile data usage has to make you wonder.
