Family Guy Creator Given Permission To Remake Flintstones Cartoon Series

What in the??? Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane has been given the green light by Fox and Warner Bros. executives to recreate The Flintstones cartoon series.

FOX on Monday announced that the funnyman is currently reworking the series which will debut in 2013.

The show will pick up where the 1960s original left off with the series centered around the same main characters including Fred, Wilma, Barney, Betty, Pebbles and Bam Bam. The show is also expected to spoof today’s best technology just as it did in the past.

In a statement released on Monday MacFarlane said the Flintstones played a crucial role in his decision to become an animator:

“The very first cartoon character I drew at age two was Fred Flintstone. So it’s appropriate that events have come full circle, allowing me to produce the newest incarnation of this great franchise. Plus, I think America is finally ready for an animated sitcom about a fat, stupid guy with a wife who’s too good for him. Production on the series begins in the fall and with his gift for satire it could actually be a good fit, as long as Fred doesn’t end up sounding or acting like Peter Griffin, who I love but would ultimately not fit in the world of The Flintstones.
