Man Flu

‘Man Flu’: Not for Woosses! What YOU Need To Know

New scientific evidence actually indicates that ‘Man Flu’ isn’t just an excuse to get out of doing the dishes. New scientific research has found that men, and especially ‘tough guys’ with higher testosterone levels, have weaker immune systems.

Scientists from Stanford University published their findings in the ‘Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences’ saying they have found that men are more likely to be debilitated when they get the flu. While women have complained for thousands of years about their husbands acting like big babies when they get the sniffles, this new research has proven that the guys are not as resilient as the gals when it comes to the flu.

The research found a link between the level of testosterone the patient has, and the strength of their immune system. So actually, the tougher the dude, the more sick he’ll get. This also means that people taking testosterone supplements, women included, may also be at more risk of getting the ‘Man Flu.’

The research has interestingly found that the heightened testosterone levels have a significant effect on the effectiveness of immunizations and flu vaccines. It seems that women’s naturally lower levels of testosterone allow their body to accept vaccines much better than men. So, men will not only end up getting sicker from the flu, but they might also start complaining after only the vaccine.

The good news is men with lower levels of the adrenaline pumping hormone are just as safe as women. However, tough guys are more at risk from all sorts of diseases, not just influenza, but also nastier things like yellow fever, hepatitis, and measles – basically anything that you get vaccinated against.

While women all over the world are rolling their eyes at this news, it’s been clear to men for thousands of years that ‘Man Flu’ is very real, and this scientific research changes nothing. There’s still no evidence though that ‘Man Flu’ is worse than childbirth; we’ll keep you posted when they prove that!

In 1982 scientists managed to simulate the agonising symptoms of full blown Man-Flu in a female chimp. She became so ill that her head literally fell off.

– Probably not true…

In the meantime, in order to keep your rough and rugged fellow safe, keep him indoors, don’t endanger his life by making him take out the bacteria laden garbage, keep him away from all types of cleaning (the germs are after him), and keep him warm 😉

Ladies, on the other hand, are practically immortal with their lower levels of testosterone and should therefore stop worrying, and make sure to keep the house safe for the men in their lives.

If you’ve survived ‘Man Flu,’ none of this is news to you. But, as they say, ‘laughter is the best medicine,’ so you might enjoy these jokes… and these tips here.
