Kendrick Lamar To Perform At 2014 Grammy Awards

Kendrick Lamar has been added to the list of performers for the 56th Annual Grammy Awards.

Earlier this week, the Compton rapper tweeted, “Jan. 26, 8pm. I’m performing @TheGRAMMYs on @CBSTweet #GRAMMYs.”

As a solo artist, Kendrick Lamar is nominated in five categories at the 2014 Grammy Awards. The 26-year-old is nominated for Album of the Year and Best Rap Album for his second studio album, Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City. He is also nominated for Best New Artist, Best Rap Performance for “Swimming Pools (Drank),” and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “Now or Never (featuring Mary J. Blige).”

Good Kid, M.A.A.D City was released on October 22, 2012 and served as Lamar’s major label debut. The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 242,000 copies in its first week — earning the highest first-week hip-hip albums sales of 2012 from a male artist, as well as the best-selling debut from a male artist of the year.

The album spawned five singles: “The Recipe,” featuring fellow Compton rapper Dr. Dre, “Swimming Pools (Drank),” “Backseat Freestyle,” “Poetic Justice,” and the remix of “B*tch, Don’t Kill My Vibe,” featuring Jay Z.

Kendrick Lamar will be joined onstage by Las Vegas rock act Imagine Dragons. Lamar also recently partnered with artist Eddie Peake for “Sing About Me,” the first part of his 12-minute track, “Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst.” The video is directed by Darren Romanelli, who has previously collaborated with Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy and Converse. Part two, which will be called “Dying of Thirst,” will be released in January.

The 56th Annual Grammy Awards air Sunday, January 26 on CBS at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Pink and Nate Ruess have also been announced for a joint performance. Daft Punk recently announced their first live performance of their material from Random Access Memories. More acts will be announced as the date draws near.
