Dwyane Wade And Gabrielle Union Are Engaged [Photo]
Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union are engaged.
The couple, who have been dating since 2009, announced their engagement on Instagram Saturday night.
Union posted a picture of her ring on her account with the caption, “Sooooo this happened… #Yessss @dwyanewade.”
Wade posted the same photo on his account with the caption, “She said YES!!! @gabunion.”
This will be the second marriage for both Gabrielle Union, 41, and Dwyane Wade, 31.
Union was previously married to retired Jacksonville Jaguars running back Chris Howard. The couple met a party in 1999 and married on May 5, 2001. They separated in October 2005. Prior to the split, Union joked about adjusting to life with her then-husband.
“He never hangs his clothes up. I’m the kind of person whose clothes are all hung up and color-coordinated, to the point where my whites don’t touch my creams,” she said while promoting The Honeymooners. “And he thinks that he can just stick things in the dishwasher – apparently the dishwasher is magic. Oh, and he leaves the toilet seat up. I guess all the things you have to get used to about living with a guy.”
Gabrielle Union and Chris Howard’s divorce was finalized in 2006. In an interview with Access Hollywood last year, the Omaha, Nebraska, native said she would “absolutely” get married again but was “taking a lot more time leading up to it.”
Dwyane Wade married high school girlfriend Siohvaughn Funches in 2002. The Miami Heat guard filed for a divorce in 2007, which was granted in 2010. In 2011, Wade was granted sole custody of the couple’s two sons, Zaire Blessing Dwyane Wade and Zion Malachi Airamis Wade.
In July, Wade and Funches agreed on a $5 million divorce settlement. That same month, a Dade County Circuit Court judge denied an emergency motion filed by Wade seeking to withhold visitation from Funches unless she underwent a psychological evaluation. Wad was ordered to turn his sons over to Funches under their custody judgement.
