Chris Cagle Arrested For DWI

Chris Cagle was arrested for driving under the influence in Texas on Sunday. Authorities with The Texas Department of Public Safety said the 45-year-old country star was initially pulled over after running a red light. Cagle was arrested and booked into the Hunt County Jail. He was released after posting $3,000 bond.

If convicted, the performer is facing up to six months in jail and a fine of $2,000. Driving while intoxicated is a Class B misdemeanor in Texas.

This is the third time Cagle was charged with a crime involving alcohol. In 2008, he was arrested for assault following an altercation with the boyfriend of a fan. Months later he and his girlfriend were arrested on charges of domestic violence.

As reported by Taste of Country, Cagle admitted he had a drinking problem following the 2008 arrests. He said he stopped drinking and smoking in an attempt to improve his life and health.

Chris Cagle is a native of Houston, Texas. As an adolescent, the country superstar learned to play the piano and guitar. Although he attended the University of Texas, he dropped out to pursue a career in music at the age of 19.

Cagle struggled for several years. However, he eventually caught the attention of an executive at Virgin Records. His first single, “My Love Goes On and On” made the top 20 on the country music charts. Three months later, he released his first album — Play It Loud.

Between 2000 and 2010, Cagle released five studio albums and 15 singles. Eight of his singles reached the Top 20 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. The single “I Breathe In, I Breathe Out” reached number one in 2001.

In 2010, Chris Cagle took a break to focus on his family. CMT reports that he joined Big Picture Music Group in 2011, marking his return to the country scene. He released his latest album, Back in the Saddle, in June 2012.
