’22 Jump Street’ Releases Big Budget Trailer [Video]

“We’re back!” announces the characters from the 22 Jump Street sequel. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are back to take their title of being in one of the funniest summer surprises, with their sequel to the wildly successful 21 Jump Street. Earlier today the trailer for 22 Jump Street hit the internet, and funny enough, it looks like 22 Jump Street is willing to make fun of itself for its surprise success the first time around.

Continuing on with their formula of getting quick laughs from Nick Offerman’s character, the best line comes from a scene that has the character introducing Jenko and Schmidt to the new Jump Street task, as he says, “Ladies, nobody gave a s— about the Jump Street reboot, but you got lucky. So now, this department has invested a LOT of money to make sure Jump Street keeps going.”

It’s a clear indication that Hill and Tatum aren’t ready to throw in the towel, and that 22 Jump Street will most likely capture that lightning in a bottle that worked for the reboot film. The plot is similar to the reboot as the two buddy cops are going undercover to bust a drug ring inside of a college. The new setting of academia is sure to bring in some scenarios that the two couldn’t really explore the first time around in a high school setting.

The real major surprise from the 22 Jump Street trailer is that team behind the film decided to put the surprise cameos in the trailer. What would have been a nice surprise of seeing Dave Franco and Rob Riggle reprising their roles from the first film is shown as a tag at the end of the trailer. That said, the tag works nicely in the trailer and will undoubtedly get the theater excited for some familiar hijinks.

The one prominent character that hasn’t returned for another round is Brie Larson, who’s character was the apple of Hill’s eye in the first film. However her absence makes room for fresh faces, like Wyatt Russell.

22 Jump Street is scheduled to hit theaters on June 13, 2014.
