Adam Sandler Named Most Overpaid Actor

Adam Sandler was named the most overpaid Hollywood actor by Forbes. According to the list, the comic actor demands close to $15 million per film. Although his movies are often big hits, two recent films bombed at the box office. Sony made around $70 million in profits with Jack & Jill — without subtracting the costs of advertising. The profits on That’s My Boy were less than $60 million.

The “Most Overpaid Actors” list was compiled using data from the actors’ last three films. The actors’ salary was compared with the films’ profits, minus the cost of production. In Sandler’s case, the films made an average of $3.40 for every dollar he was paid.

Although both Jack & Jill and That’s My Boy were disappointments, Grown Ups 2 grossed more the $240 million. Unfortunately, it is simply impossible for production companies to know whether a film will be a hit before it is released.

As reported by Forbes, Katherine Heigl, Reese Witherspoon, and Kevin James also ranked high on the list of overpaid actors.

Heigl came in second, returning an average of $3.50 for every dollar she was paid. Witherspoon was third with $3.90, and James came in fifth with an average of $6.10 per dollar paid.

There were other actors who would have ranked high on the list. However, those who appeared in fewer than three films within the last three years were eliminated. The eliminations left Adam Sandler at the top.

A native of Brooklyn, New York, Adam Sandler started his career as a stand-up comedian. He eventually made his television debut with an appearance on Saturday Night Live. TV Guide reports that the comedian soon became known for his “crude humor and underdog appeal.”

In 1995, Sandler hit the big screen with Billy Madison. Over the next 18 years, he was nominated for three Emmy Awards and one Golden Globe. He also won seven People’s Choice Awards.

Adam Sandler and his wife Jackie Titone are the parents of two daughters.
