McDonald’s Accidentally Serves Cash Instead Of Food In Tennessee

McDonald’s served cash instead of food to a couple looking for a little breakfast.

Stacye and Greg Terry of Hermitage, Tennessee were more than a little shocked when they were accidentally handed a bag full of money instead of the tasty foodstuffs they ordered at a nearby location. Metro explains that the McDonald’s employee accidentally gave them the cash that was originally scheduled for deposit at a local bank.

Fortunately for the employees at the Hermitage location of the fast food chain, the money ended up in the hands of the Terrys. Instead of attempting to squirrel all the money away for themselves, the couple did the right thing and returned the entire wad of cash to the folks at McDonald’s.

“My husband opened the bag and discovered the money inside. He said, ‘You are not going to believe this.’ Sure enough, it was their bank deposit money,” Stacye told News Channel 5.

The incredibly honest customer added, “The second that he said it was their deposit, my first thing was let’s get in the truck and take it back. There is no other way to have it. I couldn’t live with myself.”

When the one of the workers caught up with the couple at their house, they said the employee was “visibly upset” that the money somehow found its way into the hands of a customer. Although it’s unclear how much money they received, it sounds like quite a bit.

“It was a fair amount of money. I could have done some shopping,” Stacye said.

So how did McDonald’s give away a bag full of cash? According to Gawker, manager Phil Gray launched an investigation into how the blunder took place. It’s also unclear how the restaurant’s daily deposit found its way into one of the company’s bags.

“We are grateful for this customer and the action they took upon realizing our error. We are looking in to why this mistake happened, but what is most important to us is knowing that we are part a community with the values that were evidenced by this person’s actions, he said.

Oddly enough, this isn’t the first time a mistake of this nature has taken place at a fast food joint. The Consumerist reports that Taco Bell customers in Michigan received a bag of money instead of their order. The amount in this instance: a whopping $3,600. Like the Terrys, the customers quickly returned all the money.
