Katie Couric: I’m “Stepping Down” From CBS Evening News
Katie Couric on Tuesday officially announced that she was ready to “step down” from her anchor position at CBS Evening News.
In a statement to People.com Couric said:
“In making the decision to move on, I know the Evening News will be in great hands, but I am excited about the future.”
She also mentioned that she’s working towards a new show format, stating, “I am looking at a format that will allow me to engage in more multi-dimensional storytelling.” Although Couric says details about her new show are “still being discussed.
There’s also a good chance Couric will take a part-time role as a correspondent for 60 Minutes, allowing her to continue on with her news reporter role while tackling a new syndicated talk show.
An announcement about Couric’s future plans is expected on May 6.
