Gloria Gaynor has been confirmed as the top act, alongside Kool and the Gang, at the Starlite Festival 2014 in Marbella, Spain.
Gaynor and ‘The Gang’ will be joined by whole host of performers including Chucho Valdes, Segio Dalma, Julio Iglesias, Dani Martin, and Marta Sanchez. The star-studded line up was announced in Madrid where Marta Sanchez confirmed that she will be singing with Gaynor in a show called Divas.
Sanchez said at the press conference in Madrid: “It will be momentous. This is an honor for me. I have been a huge fan of Gloria Gaynor since I was a little girl.”
The Starlite Festival, for those of you who are not familiar with it, will take place in a 2,500 seat auditorium; as well as music it features film, fashion, and art and crafts events. The 2014 Festival will be taking place between July 23 and August 23.
It hasn’t yet been confirmed whether or not Gloria Gaynor will perform I Will Survive - the song for which she became famous – although most commentators assume that she will.
Gaynor spoke about her new book, We Will Survive: True Stories of Encouragement, Inspiration, and the Power of Song, which she co-authored with Vanity Fair reporter Sue Carswell. The book includes a collection of stories from survivors, including those from the Holocaust, who recount their experiences in this inspirational work.
Gloria Gaynor writes in the prologue of the book about what inspired her to write it:
Over the years I have been told countless stories regarding the wonderful effects ‘I Will Survive’ has had on people. While I expected it to touch many people, I never imagined the far-reaching responses from every nationality, race, creed, color, and age group it has produced.
