‘House Of Cards’ Returns To Netflix In February [Video]

House of Cards will return to Netflix beginning at 3:01 am ET on February 14. The popular drama’s second season will include 13 episodes, which will be released in one batch. Although Netflix originally planned two seasons, the show’s success prompted talk of more episodes in the future.

The political drama follows the story of Congressman Francis Underwood, who is portrayed by Kevin Spacey. Underwood spends the entire first season exacting revenge on those who threaten to undermine his political career. In addition to Spacey, the talented cast includes Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Kristen Connolly, Kata Mara, and Corey Stoll.

House of Cards premiered early this year with a batch of 13 episodes. By releasing the entire season at once, Netflix gave viewers a unique opportunity to “marathon” a completely new series. While the practice has gained in popularity, viewers are usually limited to marathoning programs that have already broadcast on traditional channels.

The concept and the program itself won the favor of fans and critics. The unique show was nominated for nine Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, and Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series.

As reported by USA Today, the second season promises to rival the first. Netflix provided a plot summary to give viewers a sneak peek into the series’ much anticipated return:

“Francis and Claire Underwood continue their ruthless rise to power as threats mount on all fronts. Zoe Barnes… is inching closer to the truth about his crimes… Raymond Tusk demands that Francis reciprocate political favors or face retribution… Claire must confront the increasing glare of the spotlight… The Underwoods must overcome these dangers… regardless of collateral damage they leave in their wake.”

Fans will appreciate Netflix’s commitment to extending the series beyond the second season. Although the series was originally planned for 26 episodes, Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said future seasons are already in the works. Deadline Hollywood reports CCO said “talks are in progress right now.”

House of Cards fans have anticipated the series’ return for nearly a year. In less than three months the highly anticipated second season will begin.
