Pappy Van Winkle Heist: 100 People Questioned, Cash Reward Offered

Pappy Van Winkle is known for its world class Kentucky Bourbon among connoisseurs worldwide.

The Inquisitr reported back in October that very pricey bottles of Pappy Van Winkle whiskey had been stolen from their Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort.

Since the robbery, authorities have been monitoring websites and have interviewed over 100 people. A cash reward of $10,000 has also been offered for information leading to the arrest of the thieves.

In the Pappy Van Winkle heist in October 195 bottles of 20-year-old Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve Bourbon and another 13 bottles of Family Reserve Rye were stolen.

The whiskey is estimated to be worth around $26,000. Sheriff Pat Melton said that the cash reward had been offered as officers were: “just trying to bring Pappy home.”

The $10,000 reward isn’t even the first or only cash incentive to be offered to the public. A crime-stopper’s organization already offered a $1,000 reward.

In their efforts to find the perpetrators of the Pappy Van Winkle heist, detectives have been monitoring Craigslist, eBay and other bourbon blogs in the hope that they will uncover some leads that will bring the Whiskey thieves to justice.

An owner of a Wine and Spirits outlet in Louisville, Gordon Jackson, said it was very hard these days to get his hands on any Pappy Van Winkle beverages, which are in high demand from his customers:

“Whenever we do have it, we really never admit to having it and we kind of stash it and hope to get it to our better customers,” he said.

The police investigation will continue until some answers can be found as to who stole over 200 bottles of Pappy Van Winkle.
