Chambliss projected as Georgia Senate runoff winner

Georgia Senate runoff

Georgia voters returned to the polls today in a runoff contest following a tight result early November.

Republican Saxby Chambliss iss projected as the winner with 59% of the vote with 72% of precincts reporting.

Saxby Chambliss was first elected to the Senate in 2003, and is the senior United States Senator from Georgia. In the 110th Congress, Chambliss served as the Ranking Republican Member of the United States Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry and he chaired the committee during the 109th Congress (2005-2007).

The failure of Democratic challenger Jim Martin to will see the Republican Party maintaining the ability to filibuster with Democrats falling one person short of the 60 required.
