Luke Evans Is Still Playing Lead In ‘The Crow’, Norman Reedus Rumored To Join

Contrary to rumors floating around on the internet, Luke Evans is very much still playing the lead role in the reboot of The Crow.

A source close to the production tells The Inquisitr the Welsh star remains involved and is actually getting ready to play the part of Eric Draven on the remake of the 1994 film.

Some rumors are suggesting that The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus would take over for Evans, however, no reason was given for the change in protagonist on several online outlets.

The more believable rumor is that Reedus will be joining the production playing a different character, which some reports argue could be a “vampire slayer” type individual.

According to Schmoes Knows, Reedus is up for the role called “James”, although it is not clear if he is Draven’s friend or enemy.

The Crow tells of Eric Draven, a musician, who along with his fiancée, is brutally murdered and comes back to life in the form of a crow to avenge his own killing.

The report on Schmoes Knows is a bit confusing and the site seems to believe Norman Reedus has taken the role from Luke Evans. That is not accurate, according to our source.

So much so, that Luke Evans himself Tweeted earlier on Friday about being excited to start training for the film.

The Crow is to be directed by F. Javier Gutierrez, with a script by Cliff Dorfman.

Creator James O’Barr has been brought in to work as a consultant on the film, which begins production in 2014.

The studio actively sought Luke Evans for the role of Draven and adjusted the production time so that it would work with his busy schedule. He recently completed production for Dracula.

Luke Evans’ followers are hoping the movie will give the actor an opportunity to sing, something he has not done on film yet. He began his career in musical theater in London.

Evans is poised to play Bard the Bowman in the second installment of The Hobbit, The Desolation of Smaug, which opens in theaters next month.

No release date has been announced for The Crow. For updates on the production follow its main star Luke Evans on Twitter.
