Encyclopaedia Britannica to Create Online Community

Encyclopaedia Britannica is reported to be planning an online community where experts and members can contribute their knowledge, like a wiki. According to reports, the online community will allow users to access an online editor where articles can be published. Users may also edit other member’s work. Encyclopaedia Britannica, however, gave the assurance that entries will be subject to strict quality criteria from its team of expert editors. A reward system for contributors is also planned.

The company also announced that the Britannica Online website (currently in beta) has been redesigned to prepare for the introduction of the online community features.

The Encyclopaedia Britannica has been online since 1999.
