Amanda Bynes: Is She Mentally Sound Enough For DUI Case?

Amanda Bynes has been ruled mentally sound enough to stand trial for her DUI case, according to a judge in an L.A. mental health court

After reviewing her medical records, the judge said that Bynes is fit to stand trial. The troubled actress failed to show up at her appointment with the courts on September 24.

The Nickelodeon star was arrested on a DUI back in April 2012 in West Hollywood. The L.A. County District Attorney’s office told Us Weekly in September:

“Her attorney declared a 1368 [Penal Code] hearing to declare a doubt to mental competency. The parties will be due back in court on January 14, 2014 for a progress report.”

Back in July, Amanda Bynes set a fire in the driveway of a stranger in Thousand Oaks, California, where she lives. She was subsequently placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold back.

Subsequently, Bynes’ mother was granted temporary conservatorship over her daughter’s affairs after a judge ruled that Amanda Bynes had a “lack of capacity to give informed consent to medical care.”

Since September, Bynes has been undergoing treatment at a private facility in Los Angeles, following troubling behavior which included marijuana possession and reckless endangerment. She also apparently tossed a bong out of the window of her Manhattan apartment.

Amanda Bynes is expected to complete her treatment within a month, and hopes to be home in time for Christmas. It is hoped by all that Amanda will react properly to her treatment and she will make as full a recovery as possible from her mental health issues.

What do you think about the Amanda Bynes situation? It is of course tragic that such a young star has to go through what she has gone through with her mental health issues, but what is the solution for Amanda long-term?
