Charlie Hunnam Sounds Off On ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Replacement Jamie Dornan

Think there’s any bad blood between Charlie Hunnam and his Fifty Shades of Grey replacement? Think again. Hunnam only had kind words for Dornan, who is poised to take over for Hunnam in the film adaptation.

When TMZ caught up with Hunnam for a chat, Charlie told the site:

“I’m sure he’ll do a great job. I don’t really know his work, but I know [director Sam Taylor-Johnson] is amazing, and she has fantastic taste, so I’m sure he’ll do a great job.”

At the time, Hunnam turned down the opportunity to name who he would of picked to replace him in the role of Christian Grey, but perhaps that’s because he’s been concentrating on his work on FX’s Sons of Anarchy. When it was announced that Hunnam was bowing out of the role, one of the original factors was said to be his very busy shooting schedule for the show.

Since then, Charlie Hunnam has broken his silence on why he exited the role of Christian Grey. While there was speculation on it being the mounting pressure to pull off the role, the reason behind his departure turned out to go deeper than that and was actually personal to Hunnam.

Hunnam spoke to E! in October having said:

“I have had some family stuff going on so just trying to stay focused and stay positive and keep trying to do a good job at work and be with my family and stay positive.”

According to E!, Charlie’s father Billy passed away in May of this year, and the actor had to fly back to his home in England to be with his family.

As for Fifty Shades of Grey, the film was initially slated for an August 2014 release date, but now it’s slated for Valentine’s Day 2015. The bit of news was announced when it said that Jamie Dornan would take on the role.

According to Jamie Dornan, he doesn’t seem the least bit intimidated about filling Charlie Hunnam’s shoes:

“All I can say is I’m going to do everything in my power to portray Christian Grey as truthfully as possible. I can’t guarantee that’s going to please everyone — just me being cast doesn’t please everyone — but it’s happened and I’m going to give it everything.”
