Dakota Johnson Calls ‘Fifty Shades’ An ‘Incredible Love Story’

Dakota Johnson is talking candidly about being cast as Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades Of Grey earlier this year and calling it “an incredible love story.”

Not many would have chosen Dakota Johnson to play the coveted role of virginal college graduate Anastasia Steele, who gets involved with domineering billionaire Christian Grey in the E.L. James Novel.

However, when she auditioned, she impressed producers by reading a steamy sexually explicit monologue from Ingmar Bergman’s 1996 film Persona, according to E! News.

Johnson, who is the daughter of actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, says she knew exactly what she was getting into when she accepted the part.

“I just really understand it. I think it’s an incredible love story and that’s why it’s affected so many people. (Author E.L. James) did a really good job of explaining how that just can happen sometimes and you have this chemical pull to someone. Adding in the sex makes it perfect. Sometimes you feel a little bit naughty and that’s okay.”

Dakota Johnson hasn’t spoken much on her casting, as all the attention has been focused on who would play Christian Grey, but now we know what it was like at her audition for Anastasia.

“They weren’t–and I can’t think of a better word right now–p**** footing around the subject,” the 24-year-old says of selecting the racy piece for her audition.

Jamie Dornan was cast after Sons Of Anarchy star, Charlie Hunnam, left the project in October. Dornan flew from London to Los Angeles for his audition on October 18. He returned home shortly after, not sure if he had gotten the part.

As reported by The Inquisitr Dakota Johnson played an important part in securing the Irish former model for the starring role.

Both actors seem to be okay with the explicit nature of Fifty Shades Of Grey and as relative unknowns could get their big break with the highly anticipated and talked about adaptation.

Dakota Johnson, who has read all three novels that make up James’ trilogy says of her reaction to getting the part:

“They said, ‘You got the offer!’ and I couldn’t speak. I was just so relieved. I was crying and crying. Water was literally squirting out of my eyes because I had been so stressed out.”

As to Jamie Dornan, he got the call at 1:30 am while he was sitting by the phone:

“I was sort of pretending I wasn’t waiting, but the phone was in my hand, halfway to my ear,” Dornan recalls of the moment which could make him a household name.
