‘How I Met Your Dad’ Is Officially Happening

Are you ready for the excruciatingly long tale of How I Met Your Dad? If you’re cringing at the idea, hopefully you’ll eventually get on board because apparently CBS really wants the How I Met Your Mother spinoff to work in a really bad way.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, it was announced a few weeks ago that CBS was in preliminary talks with producer 20th Century Fox for the spinoff show which would be titled How I Met Your Dad. Now Deadline is reporting that the news is official as CBS has moved one step closer to making this idea a reality. Instead of looking to pick up a new sitcom to fill its comedy block, CBS has ordered a pilot for the show.

Here’s what we know so far about How I Met Your Dad. It will not involve any of the characters from the original show. Instead, both shows will share a common link — MacLaren’s Pub. Much like F.R.I.E.N.D.S’ Central Perk, How I Met Your Mother’s MacLaren’s has been an important ‘character’ and tone of the show as it has serviced a lot of the storylines that have bridged Ted, Barney, Marshall, Lily, and Robin together.

As of right now it’s unknown if the new characters of the spinoff will be introduced in the series finale of How I Met Your Mother, but it would be a smart move and a clean transition for those who might be interested in the spinoff.

As it’s suggested, How I Met Your Dad will be the story from a female’s perspective as she explains to her children how she met their father. It’s said that although the show will use the same set up in storytelling that it will ultimately have a new voice. Let’s hope that “new voice” won’t just be the change in the lead’s tone of voice, and that creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas can come up with something special.
