Demi Lovato Thought Her Career Was Over During Rehab

Demi Lovato thought her career was over during her stint in rehab.

Although she certainly isn’t the first teenage star to struggle with drug problems and an eating disorder, the Camp Rock star was the first to do so while working for Disney. According to Us Weekly, Lovato was touring with The Jonas Brothers and starring in Sonny with a Chance when she decided to seek treatment.

Lovato recently opened up to the folks at Entertainment Weekly about her stint in rehab for her problems. According to the actress, she thought her career was over and out when she decided to receive professional help. However, the truth was apparently much different when her stay was finished.

“When I was in treatment, I honestly thought my career was over. But when I came out of treatment, I had more supportive fans than ever,” she told the magazine during her recent chat.

In a world filled with celebrities who don’t act as role models for their young fans, Demi Lovato said she refuses to feel that way. She told EW that this mentality was ultimately what served as her downfall.

“That was my excuse to do whatever the f*** I wanted and not give a s*** about what other people thought. Then I ended up going through some stuff. I realized I’m never going to escape the fact that I’m in the public eye, so I might as well do the best I can,” Lovato said.

Although the X Factor judge has shared her struggles with the world, she said her fans would be extremely surprised by how much of an impact these problems had on her life.

Lovato explained:

“I’m battling with internal thoughts on how honest I should be. Yes, I’ve been very honest, but if people really knew how dark and deep my struggles got — not just with my eating disorder but with drugs and alcohol — they’d be really shocked. But I’ll most likely end up saying everything. Maybe it’ll help other people in the industry who are headed down the wrong path.”

Not surprisingly, her conversation with the publication eventually turned to Miley Cyrus. Since Lovato and the “Wrecking Ball” singer were once the apple of the Disney Channel’s eye, EW asked Lovato to weigh in on the former Hannah Montana star’s recent antics.

“She’s having fun and figuring out who she is, and this is the age when that happens. I think that… she’s doing her own thing. Good for her,” she remarked.
