Katy Perry, TLC To Perform At The 2013 American Music Awards

Katy Perry, TLC, and Jennifer Lopez are among the slew of popular recording artists scheduled to perform at this year’s American Music Awards.

In addition to singing the tune “Unconditionally” from her recent album Prism, Perry is presently slated to perform a tribute to salsa legend Celia Cruz. According to USA Today, the award show’s producers confirmed the singer’s involvement on Wednesday.

Although Katy Perry’s involvement with this year’s American Music Awards is getting plenty of attention, a lot of folks can’t wait to witness the return of TLC. T-Boz and Chilli are both scheduled to perform during the show along with an unnamed special guest.

The Los Angeles Times theorizes that the as-of-yet unannounced guest is probably recent collaborator J. Cole. The surviving members of TLC worked with the rapper on the song “Crooked Smile.” The publication also believes Lil Mama, who portrayed Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez in the made-for-TV biopic, is a possibility.

Katy Perry, TLC, and Jennifer Lopez aren’t the only artists scheduled to appear at the American Music Awards later this month. Luke Bryan, Miley Cyrus, Florida Georgia Line, Lady Gaga, Kesha, Imagine Dragons, Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, One Direction, Justin Timberlake, and Pitbull are also on-deck for the ceremony.

ABC is all set to air the American Music Awards on November 24 at 8 pm ET. If you want your favorite artist to walk away with an award, then you should seriously consider casting your vote as soon as possible. Don’t let them down!

During her recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Katy Perry discussed what inspired the song “Unconditionally.” Although she said John Mayer had a hand in the tune’s creation, the singer added that her recent trip to Africa helped bring the lyrics to life.

She told the magazine:

“I went to Madagascar and did a UNICEF trip that changed my life and gave me this song. It’s just a simple message about loving someone and accepting them and kind of driving at you don’t have to be so self-conscious, you don’t have to fear, because essentially, everybody has their stuff. Nobody comes stuff-free. Everybody has their things and you’re never going to be perfect, and accepting that and understanding that, especially in a relationship, it makes room for a real, genuine kind of love.”
