Stevie Nicks To Guest Star On ‘American Horror Story: Coven’

Stevie Nicks will guest star on an upcoming episode of American Horror Story: Coven.

Co-creator Ryan Murphy tweeted the news Tuesday morning, writing, “Guess who’s visiting the Coven? The legendary Stevie Nicks!”

Murphy hasn’t revealed any details of Stevie Nicks’ role, but it seems likely that she could be appearing as herself. Misty Day (Lily Rabe), a young witch with the power of resurgence, idolizes Nicks and listens to the Fleetwood Mac’s music in her cabin in the swamp. She tells Zoe (Taissa Farmiga) that Nicks is the “White Witch,” the only witch she knew before her, and explains that “Rhiannon” was her “anthem.”

Murphy and Nicks previously collaborated on the “Rumours” episode of Glee in the musical comedy-drama’s second season. After star Cory Monteith’s death in July, Nicks sent a note to the cast and said that she was “sick for days” after he died. Murphy and Nicks had been in touch about Coven, and he said the series used “like eight Stevie Nicks songs this year.”

Like her character, Lily Rabe is also a fan of Stevie Nicks.

“Well, I’m pretty obsessed with her, too. It’s been delicious. It’s not that Misty just wants to look like Stevie or listen to her music. She’s quite isolated and lonely, and she has this love affair with Stevie,” Rabe told Vulture last month. “Stevie is her idol and the lyrics are her mantras that she lives by. She’s looking for someone to help her understand why she is the way she is, so in that way her soul is nourished by Stevie. It’s not a superficial obsession, it’s a deep love. And yes, you will see some shawls.”

Stevie Nicks explained that she discovered Rhiannon through Triad, a novel by Mary Leader. In the novel, a woman named Branwen is possessed by another woman named Rhiannon. Nicks wrote the song three months before joining Fleetwood Mac on New Year’s Eve 1974, and said she learned after the fact that Rhiannon originated from a Welsh goddess. The 65-year-old also said she stopped wearing black for two years to distance herself from rumors that she was a witch.

American Story Horror: Coven features Angela Bassett, Gabourey Sidibe, and Patti LuPone as special guest stars. Kathy Bates joined the main cast, which featured the return of Taissa Farmiga and Denis O’Hare, who skipped the second installment, American Horror Story: Asylum. Jamie Brewer also returns in a recurring role.
