‘World Of Warcraft’ Movie Details Announced

The World of Warcraft movie was detailed a bit more today at the BlizzCon 2013 event, so now we have some idea what to expect.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, the film is being developed under a very cautious eye, because Legendary Pictures doesn’t want to screw it up like so many others. It’s nice to know that at least some movie producers are trying to make something they can be proud of through the years.

While most video game based movies have been considered absolute trash, like Super Mario Bros. and Double Dragon, a few have enjoyed mild success.

Unlike the rest, the creators of the World of Warcraft movie aren’t simply trying to cash in on the franchise. For starters, the film was originally going to be about humans vs. orcs, but the more they worked on the story, the more they realized there were heroes on both sides. They don’t want to alienate the orc gamers by making the creatures the stereotypical villains.

The film will feature both Durotan and Lothar, with Durotan presenting the side of orcs who are not corrupt. Director Duncan Jones is equating the film with what Marvel is doing in their cinematic universe, making what could be an epic adventure beneath the surface. It would be impressive to see a video game based movie series that actually captures us for a good duration without heading south like Resident Evil did.

The initial plot of the World of Warcraft movie is more of an origin story, where the humans meet the orcs for the first time. Both sides will have their complexities, in a way that made special effects supervisor Bill Westenhofer refer to it as “Avatar meets Game of Thrones.”

Everybody who really tries thinks their movie will break new ground and impress everybody. Until we see it, thought, we can’t really know whether the World of Warcraft movie will be worth the price of admission.
