‘How I Met Your Mother’s Upcoming Episode Is Completely In Rhyme

One of the most defining moments in a television show’s life is when it reaches the moment where it “jumps the shark.” To some fans How I Met Your Mother has already jumped the shark several times, but they may jump it for good in an upcoming episode, which is said to be entirely in rhyme.

How I Met Your Mother has always been a show that’s grounded itself in musical theatrics. Although it comes with tender moments, and veers into really fantastic dramatic moments, there’s also those episodes that allow the writers to flex their love of the absurd. It’s not everyday you can see a cast burst into a song about a suit, but How I Met Your Mother prides themselves in going that extra mile for some of their most quirky moments.

A How I Met Your Mother musical seemed inevitable at one point, but it doesn’t look like the creators are going there. Instead it looks like How I Met Your Mother may just jump the shark by having a whole episode in rhyme.

According to an interview E! conducted with How I Met Your Mother actress Cobie Smulders, the cast just wrapped on the rhyming episode:

“We just shot an episode where the entire thing is in rhyme. And it was so much fun. It’s like every second line is a rhyme. It varies; you gotta watch it!”

Smulders, who plays Ted’s ex and Barney’s fiancé, Robin Scherbatsky, gave the scoop on the upcoming rhyme episode:

“The writers just nailed it. It’s so fun and they just made it so funny, but so lyrical at the same time.”

So far this season, despite it still being early on in the final season, How I Met Your Mother has hit landmark moments that fans have been waiting years for. We have been introduced to “the mother”, played by Cristin Milioti, and in last night’s episode we know the exact location where Ted proposes to the mother. According to Smulders, that’s only the tip of the iceberg:

“The episodes are very big.”
