Egyptian Executioner Who Killed 800: ‘I Love My Job’

Hajj Abd Al-Nabi claims to be Egypt’s official executioner and says he has hanged more than 800 people for their crimes. Those crimes range from adultery to murder, and often carry the death penalty in this Middle-Eastern country.

Mr Al-Nabi is so enthusiastic about his job he told reporters: “In all honesty, I love my work. I just love it!” continuing, “I never say ‘no’ when they need me at work. This is my work and my livelihood.”

Even more twisted is the fact that Mr Al-Nabi said that strangulation has been a favorite pastime of his since he was a teenager:

“When I was young – about 13 or 14 years old – the dry Ismailiya Canal in Shubra Al-Kheima still had water in it,” he said reminiscing. He continued:

“My hobby was to catch a cat, to place a rope around its neck, to strangle it, and throw it into the water. I would get hold of any animal – even dogs.”

He went on to talk about how he applied for the job and proved that he had what it took to be an executioner. He was told: “Congratulations. Now, grow a mustache”.

Al Nabi said, in his clearly infinite wisdom: “The truth is that my heart is dead, because executing comes from the heart, not the mustache. Only if you have a heart of stone can you be content in this line of work.”

When it comes to his beliefs on the justice he metes out to his victims he said: “When it comes to carrying out my job, I am tough. The murderer has done an abominable thing, and I cannot be soft with him.”

The cultural differences between countries like Egypt, in the Middle East, and countries in the West, are clearly large in terms of their view on death and punishing criminals.
