Pregnant Woman Stabbed While FaceTiming With Husband Serving Overseas

El Paso, Texas — A pregnant woman was stabbed while FaceTiming with her husband, who is serving overseas.

According to El Paso police, 19-year-old Fort Bliss soldier Corey Bernard Moss went to the home of 31-year-old Rachel Poole Wednesday to confront her about money he owed her. Poole wasn’t home, so Moss waited inside the house until she returned.

When Poole got home, she began FaceTiming with her husband, Justin, who is deployed overseas. Moss then attacked Poole from behind with a stainless steel knife.

Police said Poole recognized Moss immediately and began screaming his name to her husband, who had to listen to and watch the entire ordeal. Moss continued to beat and stab Poole, who is nine months pregnant. He then fled the scene and called a co-worker to pick him up and drive him back to Fort Bliss.

Justin Poole called other co-workers of Corey Moss, who confronted the teenager when he arrived back at the base. The co-workers found the knife he used to stab Rachel Poole in the vehicle he was a passenger in.

Rachel Poole called 911 and told police that Moss had attacked her. Fort Bliss military police took Moss into custody, and later turned him over to El Paso police. He provided a voluntary statement to police and confessed to beating and stabbing the expectant mother.

Rachel Poole was admitted to University Medical Center with several stab wounds, as well as fractures to her face and body that required surgery. Police said the baby was in good condition, but Poole’s current condition is unknown. She was last listed in critical condition.

Corey Bernard Moss was arrested on a charge of criminal attempted murder. He is being held at El Paso County Detention Center on $60,000 bond.

Neighbors told KFOX14 they believe Moss owed Poole money because her husband allegedly allowed him to use one of his vehicles while he is on deployment, and that damage had been done to the vehicle.

Fort Bliss confirmed that Corey Bernard Moss is a private in the Army and released the following statement:

“We confirm that an incident involving a Fort Bliss Soldier occurred last night. The incident is under investigation and, as such, we cannot provide any details. We are also unable to speculate as to what may have taken place. The investigation into this matter is being conducted by the El Paso Police Department and Fort Bliss is cooperating fully. We pride ourselves on the professionalism of the Soldiers within our ranks. Behavior such as these alleged actions are not representative of the men and women who serve at Fort Bliss. Our immediate concern is for the safety and welfare of the victim. We are monitoring her condition and our thoughts and prayers are with her for a full and quick recovery.”
