Severed Hands And Feet Halloween Display In Store Didn’t Go Over As Well As Planned

One local Norwegian grocery store is being told to apologize to shoppers after placing realistic looking severed plastic hands and feet in it’s frozen meat section. The store claims that it was all done in good taste, as a part of a Halloween display, but disgruntled shoppers are still very unhappy about it all.

The Daily Mail reported that parents were horrified when they discovered the severed limbs in the meat freezers, which are said to have terrified children looking for Halloween costumes and decorations. The store, Europris, withdrew their “Chop Shop” range of bloodied severed hands and feet, which the Telegraph reported was sold alongside their normal cuts of meat.

The Telegraph reported one outraged customer, Mona Urfjell, made a Facebook post which read “There’s no doubt my children would have been terrified if they’d seen this in the shops.” Knut Spaeren, the company’s spokesman, said: “We didn’t want to cause any upset, especially not to children and we are withdrawing the range with immediate effect.”

Mona Urfjell’s complaint isn’t the only one that’s been posted on the company’s Facebook page. The Daily Mail reported that another customer, Gudveig Olsen, wrote “It’s absolutely terrible and it should not be allowed.” Ivar Larsen commented: “Do we not have enough violence in the country without these kind of crazy people bringing such things into the shops.”

The question becomes, did the store take Halloween a little too far by placing the fake severed hands and feet alongside their regular cuts of meat? It was, after all, a simple Halloween display.

It would seem that these store-goers thought the company took it a little too far, which is understandable. Plastic wrapping and hanging severed hands and feet is creepy enough, but to place it among the everyday food customers buy? That may be taking it a little too far, especially for a family friendly setting.
