‘Prometheus 2’ Script Is Finished, But Don’t Expect The Movie Anytime Soon

Although the Prometheus 2 script is reportedly finished, director Ridley Scott recently explained that the sequel probably won’t happen anytime soon.

The Counselor director has a pretty full plate at the moment. Since Scott has plenty of projects to keep him busy for the time being, it could be a while before the Prometheus follow-up hits the big screen.

During his conversation with the folks at Empire magazine, the award-winning filmmaker gave a brief update on the status of Prometheus 2. The script might be finished and ready to go, but that doesn’t mean production on the flick will begin in the coming months.

“I have already got the next two films ready to go. That will be 2014, 2015,” Scott explained. ‘Prometheus’ was a great experience for me. Chasing number two, we can start evolving that grand idea.”

According to Digital Spy, Prometheus 2 isn’t the only sequel the Gladiator director has in the works at the moment. Scott is also reportedly working on Blade Runner 2, a project long-time fans of the 1982 sci-fi flick are understandably excited about.

Scott is currently working on the biblical epic Exodus starring Christian Bale, Sigourney Weaver, John Turtorro, and Joel Edgerton. Scott also told Empire magazine that he’s also starting work on another science fiction flick based on an acclaimed novel.

“There is also this very well written piece, one of the last great science-fiction books called ‘The Forever War’ — we’ve finally got a very good draft of that for Fox. I thought I’d left science-fiction for too long, that I had better climb back in,” the filmmaker said.

Ridley Scott told Den of Geek last year that he always had plans to make Prometheus 2. His conversation contains a few spoilers, so tread carefully if you haven’t seen the first flick.

“From the very beginning, I was working from a premise that lent itself to a sequel, I really don’t want to meet God in the first one. I want to leave it open to Shaw saying, ‘I don’t want to go back to where I came from. I want to go where they came from,'” Scott explained.

He added, “I’d love to explore where [Dr Shaw] goes next and what does she do when she gets there, because if it is paradise, paradise cannot be what you think it is. Paradise has a connotation of being extremely sinister and ominous.”
