‘Evil Dead 2’ Is Still In The Works, Says Fede Alvarez

Is Evil Dead 2 still going to happen? According to remake director Fede Alvarez, buying into everything you read on the internet is a very bad idea.

Horror fans were a little shocked when they learned that Alvarez and co-writer Rodo Sayagues had reportedly dropped out of the sequel to the box office hit. Although the pair previously stated that they were working hard on the follow-up, Sayagues said the pair dropped out of the project months ago.

However, Evil Dead 2 is apparently still moving forward at TriStar and Sony Pictures. Fede Alvarez recently addressed the issue on Twitter after a fan commented about the sequel’s supposed cancellation.

“Don’t believe everything you read online,” the filmmaker tweeted.

Alvarez also addressed the Evil Dead 2 rumors with the folks at Bloody Disgusting. Apparently something got “lost in translation” when Sayagues discussed the project earlier this week. According to the director, the project is very much alive at Sony.

“Rodo meant we’re not actually making ‘Evil Dead 2’ right now because the priority is Sam’s ‘Army of Darkness 2.’ But the plan of making a sequel to our ‘Evil Dead’ is very much alive,” Alvarez explained to the website.

Does this mean that Alvarez will return to direct the sequel? That remains to be seen. Although he stated that Evil Dead 2 is still happening, he stopped short of revealing how he’s involved with the project. Just because the movie is in the works doesn’t mean that he will helm the picture. Only time will tell with this one.

The Inquisitr previously reported that the Evil Dead sequel was in serious jeopardy after Alvarez and Sayagues decided to drop out of the follow-up. The news reportedly arrived courtesy of an interview with Gorosito TV.

Here’s what the co-writer said:

“Look, I am sorry to tell you this but that movie won’t happen. ‘Evil Dead 2? is not going to happen, at least not with us involved. We left that project many months ago because we preferred to put our energies on other things. I don’t know if the producers still have intentions of making it. But what I can tell you is that we are not part of that project.”

It’s hard to imagine what part of this quote was “lost in translation,” but for the moment we’ll take Alvarez at his word. Even if he’s not attached to direct the flick, there’s no way the studio is going to pass on an opportunity to make some money off the Evil Dead name.

What do you think about all of these rumors regarding Evil Dead 2?
