Lou Bega Mourned After Lou Reed’s Death

Good news, “Mambo No. 5” fans, Lou Bega is not dead! Bad news, everyone else, Lou Reed is.

The influential Velvet Underground singer passed away earlier this week and while most music fans mourned the loss of the “Walk On The Wild Side” singer some people got confused and sent their condolences to Lou Bega.

The “Mambo No. 5” singer received so many messages about his death that he ended up posting a statement to Facebook. The singer said that the confusion started when a journalist accidentally wrote “Lou Bega died” instead of “Lou Reed died.”

Bega writes:

“R.I.P Lou Reed the Genius who took Walks on the Wild side. PS: i have been receiving Tons of condolences because of a Journalist confusing our Identities. Lou Bega sends his condolences to mr.Reeds Family.”

Lou Bega is best known for his hit “Mambo No. 5.” Most people don’t consider the dance song as influential as Lou Reed’s streetwise poetics but music fans were still broken up by the news that Bega had passed away. Thankfully, the sadness was only temporary as Lou Bega took to Twitter to tell his fans that he was still alive.

Sadly, there was no confusion about the demise of Lou Reed. The Velvet Underground singer passed away this week from an ailment stemming from his recent liver transplant. The singer, who helped create punk rock, left a huge catalog of music behind. Reed never had the commercial success of a song like “Mambo No. 5” but his music is still inspiring musicians across the globe.
