Nicolas Cage Wants More Asian Actors In American Movies

Nicolas Cage firmly believes Hollywood should make room for more Asian actors right away.

The Ghost Rider star recently shot director Nick Powell’s period drama Outcast in China. During his stay in the country, Cage told state broadcaster CCTV that more Hollywood studios should cast Asian actors in their films.

According to the Daily Mail, Nicolas Cage thinks filmmakers in the United States are ignoring Chinese, Korean, and Japanese actors on a fairly regular basis. In his opinion, this practice needs to stop as soon as possible.

“I hope that we will see more Chinese actors in American cinema, too. We do see Gong Li, Zhang Ziyi and Chow Yun Fat, but it’s very rare to see the Chinese male actor in Hollywood movies, which is something I take great umbrage with,” Nicolas Cage told CCTV during his recent interview.

The busy actor continued, “My son is Asian. He may want to direct one day; he may want to be an actor like his father — and I want that to be open to him. So I want to make some kind of effort to see more of that happen in Hollywood.”

The Hollywood Reporter explains that Nicolas Cage took his son eight-year-old Kal-El — yes, that’s Superman’s name on Krypton — to China with him during his work on Outcast.

“He was here with me for the first few weeks, but he had to go back to the States to go back to school. Selfishly, I wanted him to stay with me the whole time, but the teachers said he had to go back to school, so he went home,” the actor explained.

Nicolas Cage also believes that China will soon become the world’s largest film market. The Con Air star thinks it’s only a matter of time before the country surpasses the US.

Although Outcast is the first Chinese production featuring Cage, the country apparently has nothing but love for the prolific actor. The Inquisitr previously reported that he was recently named the Best Global Actor at the 2013 Huading Awards.

Outcast isn’t the only movie Nicolas Cage has in the works at the moment. The actor is also reportedly attached to star in the action flick Tokarev and the reboot of the faith-based apocalypse flick Left Behind. Cage could also reprise his role as Ben Gates in National Treasure 3 if the movie ever gets off the ground.
