‘Batman: Arkham Origins’ Released Today, And It’s Not A Tuesday


Unless you are releasing a Nintendo game you usually wait until Tuesday to offer a new title. That special day, when rental movies are also released, is typically viewed as the optimal time to release a game and then win big with week long sales numbers. This time around Warner Bros. has decided to release Batman: Arkham Origins on a Friday.

The game, now available for consoles and PCs may have been moved to avoid an outright battle with Battlefield 4 and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Both of those games release on October 29 (Tuesday).

Batman: Arkham Origins is the third Batman game to be released. Both Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City enjoyed success upon release. The new game, as its name suggests, is a prequel to both of those titles.

In the game players take on the role of a young Bruce Wayne as an inexperienced Batman. The villain Black Mask leads a group of classic Batman nemesis’ in an attempt to assassinate Batman on Christmas Eve. The bad guys in Batman: Arkham Origins include The Joker, Bane, Penguin, and Deadshot.

The new Batman games takes place in a more open-world Gotham City that is larger than the game developers Arkham City title.

Just like the last two titles Origins features Batman in a bat-suit as he battles villains with an assortment of helpful gadgets. Gamers must solve mysteries, take down villains, and fight off various henchmen.

The Batman: Arkham Origins trailer shows a more refined level of play which should make gamers happy. The original Batman title helped usher in a new type of gameplay that has been copied by dozens of titles.

Also released was Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, a handheld companion game related to the console and PC game. Taking place after Origins the game features a 2-d/3-d hybrid style. Blackgate is available today (Friday) for the PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS.
