Samsung Galaxy S4: 40 Million Units Sold Since April

The Samsung Galaxy S4 has moved 40 million units since debuting in April 2013. The company’s sales numbers were revealed by company CEO JK Shin.

It took the Galaxy S4 just one month to sell its first 10 million units after its April 27 launch date.

To put the company’s sales numbers in perspective, it took two years for the Samsung Galaxy Note to surpass 40 million in sales. In Q3 2013, Apple has sold 31 million combined iPhone devices.

As we reported earlier in the month, the Samsung Galaxy S4 could soon be replaced by the Galaxy S5. Several rumors have suggested the tech giant will offer a six month release schedule to combat slower than expected sales.

Apple recently began selling the iPhone 5C, a $99 smartphone with a plastic case. Several hints have suggested that Samsung may be looking to release a steel or glass design to combat the “cheap look” of its current models. Apple devices have repeatedly scored higher than Samsung for their build factor.

Rumors have suggested that Samsung could release a fingerprint ready Samsung Galaxy S5, which would allow the company to compete with the Apple iPhone 5S. The Galaxy S5 will also likely include a major upgrade to the smartphones processor, even though the current option is considered among one of the more advanced options on the market. Samsung creates its own CPU’s and therefore has immediate access to new processor technologies.

Samsung believes 40 million units in approximately six months is not acceptable and it will be interesting to see what they consider a global success.

The smartphones first months of sales success was largely attributed to Apple’s failure to release a major smartphone upgrade to its iPhone line of devices. That delay is also blamed for a large chunk of Apple’s falling share prices.

Are you a Samsung Galaxy S4 user or have you decided to wait for the Galaxy S5?
