Shy Sex Kitten Britney Spears Says Female Performers Are Pressured To Be Sexy

Oh, the pressures of stardom, how they weigh on Britney Spears.

Spears, mother of two at home and “sex kitten” at the office, laments that there’s too much pressure for girls to be sexy in the music industry.

“I think there is a pressure for girls to have the right nose, the right body and you are your environment so it becomes contagious when you get in that environment,” Britney Spears said via MTV.

“You actually become that yourself, so it’s important to keep cool people around you to keep you grounded,” Britney added.

Mmm… Oh! Uh, what? Sorry, Britney, the world was just reminiscing about all the times you’ve performed nearly naked. Pressure to be sexy, you say? Sure, that’s understandable. But, Britney, that’s a pressure everyone faces on a daily basis in Western Society, not just in entertainment. And if Britney Spears thinks she is a casualty of this culture and not the cause, how grounded could she really be?

“I think it goes with what I do,” Spears said. “It’s my job to portray more of a sex kitten than what I really am at home with my kids.”

Yes, Britney, there is pressure for young female performers to be sexy—just ask Selena Gomez, your fellow Disney alum who’s told she’s “not sexy enough.” She has a right to complain, predicated on her ostensible—and false—unwillingness to bow to said pressure. You, Britney Spears, have contributed to this scantily-clad culture of women’s pop music for more than a decade. Isn’t a bit hypocritical to decry the conditions you’ve reinforced for so long, Ms. Spears?

It’s part of Britney’s job because she’s made it part of her job. Way back when, before Britney Spears signed on the dotted line, she had the choice to try to make it based solely on her singing and songwriting abilities or if she wanted to be sexy, marketable and famous. The choice Britney made is obvious—and there is nothing wrong with the choice she made. But complaining about it this late in the game? Come on, Britney, you’re better than that.

What do you think about Britney Spears’ “pressures”? Does Britney have a right to decry this situation? Does this change your thoughts about Britney Spears?
