Brad Ausmus is statistically the most likely guy to take over as the manager of the Detroit Tigers. After Mike Matheny jumped over to St. Louis and Robin Ventura joined the Chicago White Sox, oddsmakers handed Ausmus 4-to-1 odds.

Online sportsbook Bovada released its odds shortly after manager Jim Leyland resigned on Monday afternoon. Ausmus isn’t alone in his quest to take over the Tigers. With 9-to-2 odds is Tigers bench coach Lloyd McClendon, followed by third-base coach Tom Brookens with 5-to-1 odds.

The 44-year-old Brad Ausmus is a Detroit Tigers alum, playing catcher for the team in 1996 and then once again from 1999-2000. Over 17 years in Major League Baseball he has been regarded as one of The Bigs smartest players on the field.

Ausmus exited the league in 2010 after playing with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The former MLB star has no managerial experience but has been linked to talks with the Washington Nationals and Miami Marlins.

Ausmus, 44, spent three years with the Tigers as a catcher (1996, 1999-00) and has been regarded as one of the smartest players in baseball during his 17-year career. He last played for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2010.
